Beginning in 1992, Doreen has
served the state as a Step-Ahead coordinator then began planning a
professional development effort that transitioned to the private
sector.
Doreen joined a small non-profit
organization in 1998 to continue that effort by creating a early
childhood professional certification process that included
professional standards, curriculum elements, "articulation" links
to Indiana universities and college education programs. The
process was vetted by a statewide network of stakeholders
including academic partners.
More recently, beginning in
2002, Doreen participated in a similar effort in conjunction with
Indiana School Age Care Consortium to create a professional
development system for after school workers. She has worked
extensively across the state as well as with the national
community of practitioners and advocates for professional
standards, career ladders and appropriate compensation for
education professionals.
